I believe there should be a way to change the asset category and type of a lease after it has been made financials locked, this would allow for organisations to fix any miss-inputs and any updates to the status of an asset, without having to resort to either third line requests, or terminating the lease and redoing it.
This could be made a Global Admin feature if needed so that mistakes can be fixed by support if there are concerns about it being overused if it was a general client feature.
